Straight, married and unmistakably Type-A, Chris Lovito hardly fits the mold of a resident of one of the world’s most renowned gay communities. Yet for fifty years Fire Island Pines has been a vital part of his life. In turn, he has played an important, sometimes unseen role in preserving and strengthening it. DJ Kevin Burke was the house DJ at the Pines and Dunes Yacht Club, better known as the Botel, now the Blue Whale for 14 summer seasons from 1977 to 1987 for 5-7 days per week beginning early June and ending late September.
