CAPTURING PINES HISTORY: SHARE YOUR STORY

The history of Fire Island Pines lives not only in archives, but in the memories, experiences, photographs and personal collections of the people who have been part of this community. Many important stories have yet to be captured, and with each passing year, they are at risk of being lost.

The Pines Historical Society invites you to help us identify the people and organizations whose contributions have been historically significant to Fire Island Pines and/or the broader LGBTQ+ community. We are particularly interested in stories that help us understand how the Pines developed, the people and institutions that shaped it, and the role members of our community have played in the broader LGBTQ+ experience.

You do not need to have a fully researched story. Tell us what you know, why you believe the story is historically important, and identify potential sources, photographs, documents or other materials that could help us learn more.

PHS will review all submissions and determine which stories are appropriate for further research and potential development. Because our resources are limited, we cannot commit to researching or publishing every story we receive, and some stories may take time to develop. PHS will establish priorities based on historical significance, available documentation, our existing historical record and other editorial considerations.

Our goal is to capture as broad and representative a history as possible, spanning different generations, experiences, accomplishments and perspectives across the Pines and LGBTQ+ communities.
