Gustavo Novoa’s legendary 1976 Red Party epitomized this golden era—bold, sensual, and visually stunning, blending high style with carefree hedonism, communal spirit, and an unpretentious chic that defined the Pines at its dazzling peak. A very visual event set on the Pines beach, it is remembered as one of the all time great parties in the community.
The Parties of the Pines 1970’s
Parties have always been a Fire Island trademark. Getting their start in Cherry Grove, theme parties were a weekly happening. There was something about the freedom of Fire Island that allowed everyone let their hair down.

Designed by Architect Harry Bates at the height of his Fire Island Career. 607 Shore Walk remains an intact example of Bates style as well as classic 60’s architecture. Built in 1965 by Walter Reich for Alan Morton, the two simple glass boxes that are the main house and a separate cottage inspired the house’s original name “Dual in the Sun.”
