Fashions of the Pines 1970’s
The 1970’s arrive with a fashion show at the Sandpiper with groovy new styles. Fashion is part of FIP history. The show was still looking for its rightful home. Many from the Fashion world found their way to the Pines and got involved in the community.
1970.
The Unsuit and the fur bathing suit.
Jane Kipness
wife of Broadway producer Joe Kipness was very involved with the Fashion show for many years.
1972.
The fashions of Fire Island were going mainstream.
1975.
The Fashion Show had found it’s home at the Botel pool. The Pines Conservation Society was it’s benefactor.
Model Pat Cleveland below participated in many shows.
Models like Betthann Hardison, Artist David Hockney, and WWD’s Andre Leon Talley were all in attendance.

1978.
Barbara Ross,
who with her husband owned the yacht called “Barbara”, and of Ross Bicycles was a big supporter of the Pines and donated bicycles to every fundraiser.
The Fashion show was officially moved to the Botel pool. A runway over the pool was constructed by local craftsman for the show. Top Designers of the era took part donating goods as many residents worked the show.
Many famous models of the time from the fashion runways as well as Playgirl centerfolds and porno stars participated as show models. Like Will Seagers aka Gene Gordon below.
