Souvenirs/ PARADISCO DJ Robbie Leslie and Occupy the Disco
Souvenirs 50th Anniversary of Tea Dance
A perennial favorite for holiday giving (and receiving!) is wonderful music. Better still is that special kind of music that takes you back to the summer place we love the best… Fire Island Pines.
The historical legacy of Fire Island’s musical eminence is unquestioned – in the Seventies it’s where all the big hits of the era were debuted and test-marketed. Singing “Come To Me” live at BEACH 79, an unknown France Joli was instantly propelled to Gold Record status and certified Disco Diva. Any Saturday night you could spot a famous singer, songwriter, or producer celebrating their latest international release!
The Eighties brought an all new club to The Pines and a new sound to match. The musical pallet broadened and the hours lengthened. Cotton Candy Disco and summer anthems were still huge, but they were joined by Imported Electronica, English pop hits, and extended sets of beautiful, evocative morning music.
The Nineties were no less innovative and exciting, with house music and a flock of luscious new divas being creatively spun by the country’s most talented DJ’s.
Available directly from Fire Island’s own DJ Robbie Leslie, and benefiting The Fire Island Pines Historical Preservation Society, we are thrilled to offer two of the biggest and most poplar editions of our unforgettable Souvenirs Party Series!
“Occupy The Disco” (Tad Haes, Ru Bhatt, and Josh Appelbaum) are now famous for their great new style of re-branding disco and bringing it hot and fresh to a hip younger crowd. On the first warm evening of Spring 2015, they joined Robbie in the DJ booth to celebrate the upcoming Fire Island Summer Season. Three generations of happy feet merged onto the packed rooftop dancefloor of Le Bain at The Standard Hotel, Highline! Great Fire Island Classics from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’… with some wonderful surprises!

SOUVENIRS/ 50 Years of Tea Dance Recorded live on :
The Blue Whale was honored as the creator and home of original Tea Dance, beginning in 1966. With a little help from modern technology, and full access to the master tape archives, Robbie Leslie shared the booth for the first and only time with one of Fire Island’s most successful and beloved legends, the late great DJ Roy Thode. Live mixing by Robbie is seamlessly blended together with some of Roy’s most popular songs and signature mixing techniques. A 100% Disco Extravaganza, and LOVE was definitely in the air!
