Danielle was a local Long Island girl. One day she received an invite by a girlfriend Kelly Raynor who’s parents owned a beautiful oceanfront home in the Pines. Her only Fire Island experience up to that point was visiting Sunken Forest, Davis Park, and some other local FI communities. She liked what she saw, and was impressed with the many glamorous homes. Her friend Kate, who’s parents also owned a home was working at a store called “Melbamar.” The store was a mainstay in the Pines for years and had changed hands and was now owned by Pines resident Linda Gottlieb.  She invited Danielle to work there with her. She soon found herself part of the community and got to know many of the residents.

She soon moved onto another store called “The Loft.” Most of these stores have a new York City location or connection. This being one of them.

The Pines became her home away from home as she was integrating herself into the community. Loft owner Bob Koehler knew when hiring a girl that the work would get done. Danielle remained there for several years, and then it was time to move on. She approached a store called “All American Boy.”  At the time they had other locations in both Provincetown and NYC. The owner Henry was not interested, and told her”I don’t hire girls they don’t belong in FIP.” Danielle would have none of that and convinced him to give her a chance. She was hired with a young goodlooking guy named Artie also. The 90’s brought many celebrities to the Pines and one day media mogul David Geffen came in and asked Artie out to lunch. Artie never came back. Henry soon learned that having a girl wasn’t so bad. Danielle brought her friend Kate back to work with her making life at work fun and productive. Celebrities were commonplace. They included Uma Thurman & Ethan Hawk, designer Jean Paul Gaultier and more…

Working in the Pines changed her view of the world. She would go on to marry and have children, however her heart remained in the Pines. She now brings her family back every summer to share in the beach she loves…
