1995 Pink Umbrella Project for AIDs Remembrance

1995. Pink Umbrellas. On Saturday and Sunday 8/27-28 the beach of the FIP was host to “Pink Umbrella Project: An AIDS Remembrance.” The brainstorm of then Pines resident, and event designer Harry Bader. The idea was inspired by the work of CHRISTO (artists Christo and wife Jeane-Claude) who together designed enviromental works of art. Bader inspired and wanting to create a memorial to those lost to AIDS presented the idea to DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS). They liked the idea, Absolut Vodka was quickly secured as an underwriter. The canvas umbrellas were donated by a company that wished to remain anonymous. The Pink color was suggested as being traditionally associated with the Gay movement…….
